As individuals conversant with the economic development of the time, we might be tempted to ask the pertinent question: What are the forces behind the sudden emergence of the Asian Tigers: China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippine, Singapore, India and so on and so forth? The Chinese of course are everywhere. Just name it! The Chinese unarguably are influencing and shaping the lives and economies of the so called Third world nations. They are indirectly dictating our pace and controlling our collective psyche and destiny as a people and continent! Africa is virtually in the hands of the Chinese. What do you say of Indonesia that came to Nigeria to study oil palm production? While Nigerians are killing themselves because of oil- the so called national cake. Indonesia is raking billions of dollars from oil palm produce.
What of Malaysia that is raking billions of dollars from the magic crop cassava which of course can grow anywhere in Nigeria.
A lot of factors as a matter of fact went into it. The people of course were ready for it. The Chinese were ruthlessly efficient in the overall management of their resources, human and material.
China is able to feed her teeming population of about 1.4 billion people through an articulate agricultural policy. Indonesia and Malaysia went the extra miles to ensure self sufficiency in oil palm produce and cassava respectively.
Singapore, a small island nation that a country like Nigeria was richer than in the sixties in terms of per capital income has beaten us in leaps and bounds.
This magazine is calling Africa and Africans both at home and in the Diaspora to wake up from their slumber.
I would like to stress this point. The Asians especially those abroad were instrumental in the economic development of their various nations. They worked so hard abroad, earned a lot of money and repatriated same to their kiths and kins at home. This singular factor contributed in no small measure to the economic empowerment of their people back home.
This takes us to the second aspect of the discourse. Why the Asian Tigers? To sum it up, Asians are the African neighbors, friends and partners in development. The Asians are here to assist Africa in her overall quest for economic and industrial development.
This is what this magazine termed: BUSINESS AFRICANA, that is, a new dawn for Africa to rise and take up her position as the economic power of the millennium.
This of course calls for pragmatic, practical and prudent action on our part as a people and continent.
The Asians are coming in to help Africa raise her economic platform this time around.
The Asians are to partner with Africa, to propel Africa into an industrial power and force to reckon with in global business!
It is a known fact that Africa contains the biggest raw material for industrial growth and development.
What do you say?
