The issue of tithes is given a prominent position and place earlier in biblical history. We saw tithes first in Genesis Chapter 14 verse 18-20, ” And Melchizedek King of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth . And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all .” It is quite logical to say that tithes was recognized in Abraham’s time prior to the time of the law . Next we see Jacob, the grandson of Abraham making a commitment to tithing on Genesis 28: 20- 22, ” And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, if God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.” Later on in Jewish history, God incorporated tithes into the laws . It was to be administered by the Jewish priests and the levites, the descendants of Levi, one of the sons of Jacob . In the book of Malachi Chapter 3: 9- 10 we see what the LORD said about tithes. ” Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it . And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts . And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts .” Since some might argue that tithes is an Old Testament injunction, the LORD had to say something on it in the New Testament in Hebrews Chapter 7 verse 5- 8, ” And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: but he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises. And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better. And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is written that he liveth . ” One of the ways to enter into financial partnership with God, the creator of heaven and earth, the seas and the dried land is through the payment of tithes . In modern church history individuals and churches that believe and pay their tithes are more prosperous financially. They are more acquainted in divine prosperity principles and laws and God through the spirit reveals them the overriding principles of work, saving and investment. Paying of tithes is another way to beat the present financial scourge afflicting the peoples and nations. See You!
